Taiwan's Semiconductor Industry Shipment Value Reaches US$20 Billion in Jan-May Period: MOEA
August 05, 2014

Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said that shipment value of the Taiwanese semiconductor industry totaled NT$600.3 billion (US$20.0 billion; US$1=NT$29.994) during the period from January to May, a new high in the country's history, according to the Ministry's press release on August 5. IC manufacturing (including DRAM and foundry) and semiconductor packaging and testing were two pillars, representing 65% and 27%, respectively, of the total shipment value. The Ministry reckoned that the launch of new mobile devices, such as Xiaomi smartphones and Apple's upcoming new products, as well as PC replacement demand triggered by Microsoft's termination of XP support services are major factors propelling the industry's growth.
